Sustainable Farewell Flowers Course

Suitable for florists, flower growers, students or anyone wanting to learn how to create beautifully natural, sustainable sympathy flowers. If you have always used floral foam for your funeral designs but want to be more environmentally friendly then this course is perfect for you.

This is a fully packed day and you will create three designs.

Your first design is a natural tied sheaf.  The most simple of tributes and essentially is a large bouquet that can be laid down flat but has shape & profile created by using textural material & interesting foliage, along with seasonal flowers, finished with a botanically dyed silk ribbon or natural raffia. 

You will then take this apart and create a casket top arrangement (can also be referred to as a coffin topper or casket spray).  You will create the spray using locally grown flowers with the option to incorporate living plants, & make it two sections if you wish. You can apply this principle back in your own workshop to create sprays in different sizes and two or three sections using whatever plants, bulbs & flowers are in season, or chosen by your customers.

The third design will be a living wreath using flowering plants & succulents as well as cut flowers, twigs & foliage.  These can be laid on the coffin - often chosen by family if they prefer something simpler - and/or the grave in memory.  The beauty of a living wreath is it thrives for a long time after the funeral and the individual plants can be replanted.  I receive many message from customers telling me how planting out the plants from the wreath afterwards and seeing the plants emerge the following year has given them comfort and helped with grieving. 

All three of your designs are biodegradable making them suitable for natural burial grounds & made without foam.  We will look at what being sustainable means and discuss your objectives for the day, chat about how to select the most suitable flowers and I will share where I source sundries, how to deal with grieving families & funeral directors and how to properly cost your work.

My beautiful handmade willow casket will be available for you to take your own photographs throughout the day for your portfolio. .

A simple but delicious homemade lunch is included plus refreshments throughout the day. ​ Please advise if you have any special dietary requirements.

LOCATION: The Garden of Evie Flower Studio is adjacent to Unique Occasions Wedding Venue located in the small village of Loversall on the outskirts of Doncaster, South Yorkshire. It is close to Junction 2 of the M18 and Junction 35 of the A1 motorways. The closest train station is 3.5 miles away in Doncaster. Sheffield train station is 20 miles way and Leeds train station is 35 miles. Let me know if you need any help getting here. 

PARKING: There may be space to park on the road, otherwise please park in the car park opposite the main wedding barn on Rake's Lane Loversall in front of the shed. You are in the right car park if you can see a wooden cow and a large clock on the front of the shed. The postcode for the main barn is DN11 9DD - follow the signs for 'Church of England'.
